I buy Samsung, but my workplace will be getting new machines with Viewsonics for some of us and the secretaries.
They asked me about 1 GB vs. 512 MB and monitor choices.
Strangely enough I've suggested to scratch the 1 GB if we're limited by budget and just stick with 512, assuming we can put that money to getting DVI setups for everyone instead.
The problem is that if we go VGA it's always hard to know how good the quality is going to be. Not only is it the video card, but I don't have any experience with Viewsonic VGA-only LCD monitors.
If we went DVI, we'd be guaranteed good text quality, but for $$$. What I was thinking of was the VP171b with DVI. I'd be tempted to say its overkill for a secretary, but if anything they need it just as much as anyone else, since they're typing in front of a computer all day. The 512 MB would be OK, since they'd just be running 2000 and office type apps. Even 256 MB runs fine for most of them. And if need be, we could always just get some more memory later. It's pretty hard to get the coin to replace a monitor and video card later though.
Are there less expensive Viewsonic 17" LCD monitors with DVI? As a backup, what VGA Viewsonics would you recommend?
