Viewsonic G90f or NEC FE991SB...which is better?

Hey everyone, I am buying a 19" CRT very soon, and I need some advice/opinions. I have seen good reviews of the G90f off of Newegg, and i've seen many more good ones (29) on Newegg of the FE991SB as well. I know that the FE991SB is a SuperBright DiamondTron monitor...and we all know how good Aperture Grilles are...but what about the G90f? Does anyone have it and can they give me some reasons why it is a good monitor? I would like a Viewsonic because they make consistently good quality monitors...but so does NEC.

Well, what I do is a LOT of gaming and I do a lot with graphics. I may do an equal amount with text, but the overwhelming majority is graphics and games. I hear that the PerfectFlat technology is based on Mitsubishi's DiamondTron technology and if this is true, what is the difference? Do PerfectFlat monitors have the horizontal dampening lines and are the monitors truly flat? Thanks for any help!

I just bought a nec monitor with superbright. The superbright feature is pretty impressive when used for games. Just make sure you buy from someplace like Dell that has a good return policy. My first monitor had a problem and they replaced it with no fuss.

I got a G90fb, just the black version of what you want, all I can say about it is thats its awesome, I thought it would be huge depthwise but not much bigger than my older 17" i was using before, The picture is also very nice, you have to tinker around with the settings first before it'll look good, I had to adjust the contrast and brightness because it was drowning out some text on the sides. Playing games never looked better, DVD's look good, the only problem I have is that when you go to settings there isn't a recommended setting like with my old compaq where when you do like 60% screen width or whatever it would highlight pink meaning thats optimal. For the Viewsonic you have to manually do it to get it right and sometimes that can be frustrating. But other than that, its a great monitor.

So you would recommend the FE991SB? Well I mean, your monitor no doubt has the same tube type in it as the one I want to get. Oh yea, I do realize, blastman, that there are lines on the monitor. The only real difference between DiamondTron and Trinitron is that Trinitron uses 3 electron guns for the seperate RGB colors, whereas DiamondTron uses only one (Tom's Hardware). Nobody I know in real life thinks of them as a pain, and a family member that works at a defense contractor said they use Trinitron and DiamondTron monitors all the time and he said the dark lines aren't a problem because the color quality and brightness is incredible.

I can't comment on the the fe991sb because when I was researching getting a new monitor I was only reading about 22" ones. The one I got was the fe2111sb and I like it alot. I think you're right that they use the same tubes (especially since they are both in the fe series). LIke I said before, superbright is awesome.

You're right about the lines, they're no problem, you won't even notice them.

How is the geometry of that bigger one you got? Was it a pain at first? I saw the Samsung 957MB in a store and it looked great...what are your opinions on that product? I might create a new topic in the general hardware area so I can tell. It is $297 with free shipping on Amazon.com...much cheaper than the $320 total on Newegg. PCWorld currently ranks it as their top 19" CRT so it must be good...since I haven't heard anything bad and it looked great.

The geometry and convergence on this second one I got are near perfect (the first one which I replaced had good but not perfect convergence). Both monitors however, had 1 dead pixel but it doesn't bother me at all. I don't know anything about Samsungs. PC World ranking helps, but it's not perfect. The Hansol that I just replaced had a good PC World ranking but I'm only now discovering with my new monitor what I was missing out on.
