ViewSonic Experience

I just wanted to share my experience with ViewSonic monitors.

I purchased a P810 21" ViewSonic, my roommates purchased the P815 21"
ViewSonic, and the last roommate a PS773(?) 17" monitor.

About 6 months after purchasing these (all around the same time), the
roommate with the PS773 had his tube explode and go out (complete with smoke,
and all). He got an RMA from ViewSonic, and sent it back at his expense,
overnight FedEx ($100). 3 weeks past. He called ViewSonic, they refered
him to the authorized service center they had shipped the monitor to, to get
repaired. He tried calling the authorized center -- no response. Waited
another 3 weeks, called ViewSonic, they had lost his RMA. Called back and
forth between the 2 places, eventually started yelling, and ViewSonic, about
10 weeks later, sent him a new PS775 monitor with USB hub. Evidently, the
RMA, and his old monitor, was lost forever, as it was a model usurped by a
the newer PS775.

About 1 year after purchase, my monitor's Power Button stopped working.
Mind you, I never even used it save maybe 10-15 times, I always let it power
off itself via PowerSaving. This is on a $1050 monitor (what I paid about 2
years ago to date). I sent it off, and 15 days later, received it back,
fixed (only cost me $100 FedEx shipping).

About 1 year after purchase, my roommate's P815 monitor started randomly
flickering, jittering up and down on the screen about 1/2" every few
minutes. Colors were just not right -- large, very strange color spots
everywhere. This is one year after purchasing a $1150 monitor (plus
shipping). It only took 7 days to get it back, and $100 shipping.

All in all, I really WANT to like ViewSonic, but their track record here at
our house is lousy. 100% return rate on 3 different models.

Interestingly enough, when my work's 15" ViewSonic went out, I knew exactly
what to do... Never buy a ViewSonic again. =)

But... their warranty is good, and picture quality is good when it's working.

I really miss my Sony Trinitron 17" ...

edit: PS775 not P775

Hmmmmm,

I've owned a Viewsonic Graphic Series G790 (19") for the last 18 months and haven't had a single problem with it.
