ViewSonic Auto Image Adjust Disabled

I'm not sure what I'm overlooking here, but maybe someone can point out how to tell the MONITOR to resize the display so I don't have to scroll to see the desktop.

Windows XP machine (Dell), P4 1.8, 1.0 Gb RAM. All updates have been downloaded.

nVidia FX 5200 128Mb video card installed and running fine, with the latest drivers from nVidia installed.

Monitor is a ViewSonic VX2235wm 22" monitor, with ViewSonic drivers installed, as well. Digital cable used, not VGA.

I've set the display resolution to 1680x1050 as suggested by the monitor, and this appears in both Control Panel/Display/Settings and also in the nVidia Settings in the Windows Task Bar.

However, the display is too wide for the monitor, and I have to scroll left and right to see the entire desktop.

I've tried restarting the machine, hoping the monitor would auto-adjust, but it doesn't.

I see that in the ViewSonic on-screen menu that Auto Image Adjust is gray out or disabled.

What did I miss?

Hopefully I don't have to go in and manually resize the monitor display HORIZONTAL and VERTICAL settings in the on-screen display menu.

Any suggestions?

Additionally, the horizontal and vertical adjustment in the ViewSonic on-screen display menu are disabled, as well. I can't adjust the width of the display at this point.

ViewSonic driver is now disabled in Control Panel/Display/Settings/Advanced/Monitor, and also Control Panel/System/Device Manager (a red X through the device). Monitor driver is DISABLED, and I'd restarted the machine for good luck.

I still have to scroll left and right to see the desktop. Display resolution is still set to 1680x1050.

What else am I missing? This should be something obvious.

Seems like the monitor should be able to resize the display to fit automatically, and I could swear I've seen monitors do this before.
