Not a bad display, especially for the price. One correction though, based on the resolution, the display is 16:10, not 16:9. Most computer monitors are 16:10 WS, and most LCD-TV's are 16:9 - FYI

I've got a 22 incher if front of me now and think this is big. But I might be missing out on 1080p.

How far back do you have to sit with this thing?

Also,

If you scale this down to 1680 x 1050, how many inches is the viewable area?

Fixed, I just pulled the specs off of CompUSA's website. True 1080p is 1920x1080, which would make a 16:9 ratio. This is a bit taller than that :)

Actually it's about $50 less than regular price with no rebates. No rebates seals the deal for me.

Plus it's got a free photo printer after rebate, and I was in the market for a printer anyhow.

Looks like a nice deal - I'll keep it in mind for that LCD upgrade my wife wants next year.

1680x1050, if you do 1:1 mapping, gives you .875 * 28" = 24.5"of viewable area... not too bad, really...

I have a 22'' TN panel, it's alrite, I mean honestly it's fine, I've gotten so many compliments from friends about how "beautiful" the screen looks.

It's just that if you've owned a SIPS or SPVA panel before and were conscience about it then you'd probably complain if you "downgraded" to a TN panel.

If it's your very first lcd and especially if you aren't tech savy(haven't been told about the TN panel), you'd probably be very satisfied with it.
I was well aware of TN panels but I didn't care because the prices are so darn attractive!

and to some LCDs still haven't hit the same level of contrast/color reproduction of the best CRTs. It's all in what you prefer.

are there any bigger LCD's out there that are 1920x1200??? I know of a bunch of LCD TV's that are 1920x1080, but for a monitor, i really prefer the extra height... so if i could find, say, a 1200p version of Westinghouse's 1080p 37" set, I'd be in heaven :)

This sounds interesting to me. I like larger pixel sizes, and this looks like it has about the same pixel size as a 19" LCD.

I must say I am impressed. The thing is abso-fickin-lutely HUGE. It's kind of like having a 17" monitor at home and then walking into an apple store to tinker with their 30" display computers. I have been playing UT2004 and Farcry on vista64 and both look absolutely gorgeous. I feel a lot more submerged in the game! No slowdown issues either with the x1900xtx :D
