I have this monitor. Its pretty nice. Good sharp text at 1280 x 1024 32bit. 85Hz.
The Ultra Brite feature is pretty cool. Good for enhancing dark games.

I just bought a Viewsonic E70f which is basically the 17? version of the E90f. The A90f?s are retail (Staples, Office Depot) versions of these and are to my knowledge the same monitors as the E series.

The color saturation (graphics) and text quality I would rate as excellent.

The only downside to these Viewsonic series monitors seems to be that they usually have some minor geometry problems that are not totally correctable using the adjustments like ?pincushion, trapezoid ?etc.). For eg, the first one I bought had a slight geometry drop near the top middle of the screen and there is no vertical pincushion to correct this (only horizontal pincushion). I ended up returning one and am satisfied with my second one even thought it isn?t perfect. I?m probably a lot more picky than the average person when it comes to stuff like this.

I suspect most monitors have some slight geometry imperfections and an aperture-grille Sony tube based monitor might be better in this respect. For the price $260CDN (my 17?) I still think it the Viewsonic is a very good monitor considering its budget price. The Sony 17? was a lot more expensive at $460, so one might get what one pays for, but those minor geometry (very slight curvatures) I can live with for a savings of $200. They are very hard to notice unless you?re looking for them.

I kept buying cheap 19inc monitors...

I got a KDS

Then went and tried a viewsonic

the problem everyone I tried had was that I could never get the geometry perfect. That bugs me

I got a 17 inch trinitron instead. I love it. it is perfect.

Thanks, Guys

Have had this A90F+ 3 days now and for the price its great BUT ITS NO SONY.

To all who have mentioned the geometry problems, thanks !!! I thought it was just my poor old eyes or the fact that the pic doesnt quite fill the screen and I was seeing the frame that was distorted.

The adjustments are very finicky (as am I) and there is also a slight drop in the center of my screen but you really have to look for it so I guess its the best possible adjustment right now.

Very clear, sharp, BRIGHT picture and since I primarily got this one for gaming and still have my 17" Trinitron all is well.

This one will do till finances improve. Id recommend it to anyone on a budget over everything else Ive seen.

Wish Id read this thread before I spent so much time trying to adjust out an unadjustable problem. Good call on the need for a vertical pincushion adjustment.:D

Ya, it?s too bad about the slight geometry problems. The only time I notice it is surfing with windows that have a lot of vertical lines or references.

My other shortlist choices had an LG and Samsung and NEC on it and I don?t know how the geometry is on those monitors because I never really looked at them close enough. I know the mid-range LG I looked at (forget model #) the screen looked concave because of a lousy flat technology so I had pretty well ruled out that monitor.

Overall I?m still happy with the monitor and I still think the Viewsonic is a good monitor for the price too. The graphics and text quality (with my ATI 7500) on my Viewsonic are as good as I?ve seen on any monitor. If the geometry was perfect, it would have been just about the best monitor in any price range. I appreciate the good text quality because it is easier on the eyes (reading these BBS?s all day LOL).

After a week or so I find this a great monitor except for the slight geometric distortion mentioned above.

If there is nothing better on sale this week end that I can afford, I guess Ill keep it. What 19" can you buy for $202 after rebates that comes close????

All the monitors I looked at had various amounts of geometry distortions so going to a different brand like LG, Samsung, NEC, etc. ?probably really doesn?t help here. Some were a little better than the Viewsonic I have and some were a little worse. The Viewsonic?s have a very good flat technology, no concave distortions like on the LG and some of the Samsungs I?ve heard about. The Graphic or Pro series from Viewsonic may be better in the geometry aspect but I never really looked at them.
