I have a Viewsonic 17" VA720 and lately the brightness has started to flutter for a few seconds and then there will be no video, but the monitor will be on. I'm not able to see any of the brightness/contrast/etc options if I try to, so I think it's a hardware problem with the LCD. I turn it off and let it sit for awhile and come back, then it will work okay for a little bit. This ever happen to anyone else?

sound like a backlight/power inverter problem

can you see a "shadow" of the image if you shine a light on the screen or look at it at an angle when you have the problem?

Oh, good idea. Yeah, I can see the image if I shine a flashlight on the screen. Looks like my backlight is busted. RMA time. Thanks for the help
