The newest verson of AOL Instant Messenger installs Viewpoint Media Player (spyware) despite not mentioning it anywhere in the EULA. That really pisses me off. I can't even trust software that I've been using for years not to have spyware in it.

So, I'm gonna get rid of AOL Instant Messenger and use something else.

I've tried GAIM, but I find the interface somewhat annoying and it's hard for me to get used to. I am not a big fan of paying for Trillian. What else is there to use in Windows for instant messaging on AOL's network without dealing with programs installed without my permission?

yea the "upgrade" popped up last night. I was lookin at it wondering wtf this is. luckily my gf was there and told me not to install it cuz it installs some toolbar (she installed it in her computer w/o knowing). i knew right away that its spyware.

you might wanna try DeadAIM? i dunno if it still exists...

Check out AIM Ad Hack too. It gets rid of the spyware crap on install and gets rid of the Ad's etc.
