Since the ads were moved to the side, Opera makes the width fixed at the mimimum. This makes just reading the headings difficult.

Here's some examples:

A snippet from a PM:
Hi, it's me
again here;
don't know if
you missed it in
the thread - I
just want to be
sure that I'm

I have the same problem, the site looks horrible! It basically renders Anandtech forums useless to anyone who uses Opera. I'm sure a quick re-write on the code would fix it.

I agree, this fixed-width thing is whack. I don't mind if they have to move the advertisements around (even if I don't like it, hey it's free) ...but wasting 40% of my 1280x960 screen real estate is a serious issue.

Using Opera 6.06 (7.1 still needs work IMO)

edit* actually, in viewing it's more like 60% wasted... in the post creation it's 40%.

I agree... I tried 7 on Linux and it needs serious work.

I hope that they fix the issue soon, I'm sure it was a simple oversight.

Opera worked fine when I went to bed last night even after the easily avoided ad code change so I'm guessing there is some new code in there that has borked it even more. Us opera users though usually don't get alot of love from zuni..........

Ok. I try and assist everyone and anyone as much as I can, sometimes I can't get to every issue. Patience please, I have seen the thread and have tested and replicated the issue. So far it looks like another opera bug. If its causing you alot of pain then use another browser for the time being please.

Appreciate the help zuni, I think think that combined with the ads was enough to really make for extra irritation. :)

Thanks for looking into it. For reference, the ads aren't so bad in IE. I'm no HTML expert, but also try to contact Opera itself; they usually listen to feedback pretty well. If it really is an Opera bug, then they might fix it in the next point release.

Any news on the fix? I'm now using Opera 7.11 with the same problem.

That's weird, I'm using Opera 7.11 in Linux and the forums look just fine. It seems Opera fixed whtever bug was causing the display problem in 6.X. If you're still getting it in 7.11, there must be something wrong with your system/installation of Opera.

I got it to, not that much of a deal. Take your time zuni, dont listen to them. They are acting about the forums as a smoker would about not being able to get a smoke.

Suckup.

It is KIND of a big deal with your preferred browser won't properly display a major site. There may be nothing you can immediately do about it other than work around it, but they can't be blamed for checking status on it (though it's pretty simple to do, see if the site works, if not, it's not fixed).

Zuni, any luck working with the opera developers to try and track down the issue, I've worked with them in the past with other sites that wern't rendering properly that I'd coded and W3C checked, and they were very quick to help and very knowlageable.
