Viewing incoming video (via composite, on X1900XT)

I thought I'd put my old VCR to use, and connected it to my X1900XT so I could watch TV at my computer. It's too old for S-video, so I have it connected through the composite to 9-pin mini-DIN adapter that came with my card.
Everything seems to work fine, but I can't seem to figure out the best way to view the stream. With Media Player Classic, it looks great but seems to "shimmer" ever so slightly - it's like everything's constantly moving up and down by a single scan line. I thought I'd get used to it, but it's headache-inducing when it's blown up to fill up my monitor.
With VLC, there's no such issue, but there doesn't seem to be any sort of deinterlacing at all, making things look pretty horrible when there's any movement. Any attempts to enable deinterlacing via VLC's menu make the video disappear entirely (hitting stop and play brings the video back, but deinterlacing goes back to "disabled". The colors also look faded and dull in VLC (the colors are a lot better in MPC).

Is there some sort of codec or piece of software I have to download to fix the quality issues I'm having? I went to ATI's site and downloaded MMC, but it won't install - I think it's only for TV wonder cards and such. Ideally, I'd like to just fix the issue I have with MPC, as everything else is fine with that player. And does anyone know of a better player to use for this purpose? VLC and MPC are the only ones I have that can open the stream, as far as I know.

Any input would be appreciated (sorry if this is in the wrong subforum - I figured my issue was more concerned with video/graphics than general software).

EDIT: Actually, I'm 99% sure I just solved all my problems. In case anyone else has similar problems, I stumbled upon a piece of software called DScaler, which is working beautifully for me.
