I just got a Viewsonic N-1700W wide screen LCD monitor and when watching widescreen DVD that normally fill the complete screen on my Hitachi widescreen HDTV.....these still have black boxes even the fully anamorphic 1:85 to one aspect ratio DVD's. I have a standard ATI Rage Pro 128 that came with my Dell. I am using RGB connection because the video card does not support DVI at this time. I also cannot seem to adjust the video card to the suggested resolution of 1280 by 768 @ 60 hz. Would it simply be that this older video card will not do this suggested resolution orcoiuld it be that I need a better driver for the card? Any ideas? Windows uses teh whole screen as long as I select full scan image scale in teh user menu of the monitor. I cant figure out why a widescreen DVD at 1:85 to one will not comletely fill my widescreen monitor.

rage3d.com for new drivers. if that still doesn't work, your video card sucks.

running lcds at nonnative resolution is foolish.

The monitor's resolution is 1280x768 which means it has an aspect ratio of 1.667. Widescreen TVs have an aspect ratio of 1.778.
