The PF790 has a pretty good image, but Viewsonic seems to have a fairly high defect rate. My store has only sold about 30 of them in the past year, but almost 70% of them have had to be serviced in that time.

You may want to look at an NEC FE series. They are damn good, and of the 200 or so we have sold, none have broken. Downside is they are a bit pricey.

Viewsonic is right next to my parents house (World Headquarters in Walnut, CA) and they send alot of monitors to my dad to fix. When I came home from college in San Jose and visited my dad's store to my surprise was 2 x 21 inch Viewsonic monitors there. One was the P815 and the other PF815. I tried both on my computer and the picture was horrible. The tube was unrepairable so we just tossed the monitors away. I talked to the customers of the two monitors and both of them had purchased them within 1 year.

I hear alot of good comments on the PF series of monitors and my friend has a PF790 which looks great. But based on what I see at my dad's store, I personally don't feel comfortable buying a Viewsonic.

Whatever monitor you buy, buy it from a local retailer you can rely on and keep the packaging so if something goes wrong you can get it replaced more easily.

Hmm several of my friends have this monitor have had several complaints.

The two main one are first, the monitor needs a "warmup" period of like 30 minutes where it finally activates the preset correct geometry settings. Before that time, your screen might be smaller or it might be off a bit becuse the monitor is using it's default settings.

The second problem is related to the first problem. Everytime my friends exit out of games, and switch between different resolutions, the monior has problem adjusting and so when they exit out of a game, their screen is off a bit and they have to constantly change the monitor settings.

The most common problems that I have seen with Viewsonic's are focus issues or color blotching on the PF series.
It's kind of dissapointing that they have such a high defect rate because my E790 is great for a cheap 19".

Anyways, the Samsung NF series are great too. A friend of mine has a flat LG and it looks amazing, but I'm not sure about the reliability of them though.

I've had no problems with mine and only one guy I know had a problem with his. Viewsonic sent him a replacement the next day via FedEx. About 7 people I know bought them after I did earlier this year. As is the case with any product, you can get a bad one.

I have the short neck version (PS 790) and a GS 790 with no problems. They are a great value. Rick.
