View Network Computers

I have two computers on the network. A laptop and a desktop both connected via the linksys wrt54g. Desktop connects through ethernet, while the laptop connects through wireless. If i have a mapped network drive, things are zippy. But if i try accessing the other computer through the "My Network Places", things are slow as molasses in January. My question is why? I have all settings identical on both computers. Occasionally i get a workgroup not accessible error. This is all very frustrating and I would love some advice, Thanks.

Dont do the wizard it sucks and changes the workgroup to mshome. The reason it takes so long is that microsoft uses a service called network locator to probe networks for shared folders and printers and build up a list of them on the network to display as shortcuts, which sucks. Try disabling "automatically search for shared foilders and printers" in explorer tools menu --> folder options --> View Tab. This will speed up your access to my network places. Another option is to create a shortcut to the workgroup on the desltop and this will speed up access to your shares alot.
