Someone actually had the gall to say this to me last night... It took every fiber in my body to stop from lashing out.

"i was saying they've never been taken over"

Last time I checked the french occupied Vietnam for a number of years...

Definitely NOT the greatest current army in the world, but one of the best military histories, staving off thousands of years of invasions from the largest country in the world (China) from the North as well as from the South..as well as an attempt by the greatest military power in the world (US)..yet still remain intact and united.

How many nations can claim that?

Japan was the greatest army in the world up till WW2! They had never lost a war. Does that mean that they were the strongest? Not necessarily.

Well, they haven't.

Didn't they get pwned by the Mongols?

I was thining about the Vietnam war, which IMO, the US lost :(

That's your opinion. The US didn't win it, but neither did Vietnam.

By all accounts, the US Armed Forces won. Even the fabled "Tet Offensive" was a military disaster for the N. Vietnamese. However, it was a PR bonanza for the N. Vietnamese. The US just lost support of the war they were fighting at home.

And if the US would have prosecuted it like a war with the intention of winning instead of playing politics North Vietnam would not have lasted a year. We would have obliterated them.

Does anyone else see the irony in the US getting dragged into the mess that was Vietnam because of the French?

Canada razed the US Capital. Doesn't that make them the most powerful military in the world?

We didn't lose it even after we fought the war much like the Black Knight after he was missing both arms and legs. Instead we gave South Vietnam the big shaft by not responding to aggression by the North after the Paris Accords were signed like the treaty said we were supposed to do.

Not only did we take over Vietnam 'conflict' for the French, but we gave them millions of dollars of supplies after WWII to retake Vietnam.

but who took over when we left?

If you want a truly honest answer, who wanted to? Geez, that place has been a cesspool pretty much forever, and no one but a tinpot dictator would want it anyways. :disgust:

Funny thing now is how much the vietnamese are wanting to be buddy-buddy with us, "finding" all sorts of MIA remains, and hoping that Americans will come over to Vietnam. Coincidentally, they're hoping we'll flock over there on vacation, to spend some good old American greenbacks, because (like just about any communist society) they're in need of hard currency.

Shoot, the only people that won anything during Vietnam was LBJ and all his cronies that were making money hand over fist in the defense related industries. :frown:
