Hi All,
I just built a new system and chose an ATI Radeon 4890 by Gigabit which I am very happy with except that the cooling fan that came with it is the noisiest thing in the new PC. I tried downloading the ATI contol panel for adjusting the fan speed and can't get it to work (Windows7 unsigned driver issue).
So I am wondering if there is a better fan that I can swap out for the current one that would function well and be much quieter?

I'd appreciate your input and suggestions.
Thanks

Of course. Welcome to the world of water cooling.

my 4890 is fine if i leave it at factory settings, fan never hits more than 30% and is not loud, over 50% it screams though. You can put a AC accelero(SP?) on it they are quiet

Thanks.
Mine is stuck at 100%. Changing the speed using the ATI software seems to have no effect (I can't hear it slow down). I wonder what's wrong with my set up compared to yours :(
For $25 I' willing to try the Accelero S2

Thank you.

My brother bought an Accelero for his 8800 GTS SC. Under load, with 1 120mm fan pointed at the accelero, he got cooler temps than stock fan at 100%. I believe it was 51 under load and maybe 35-40 idle?

yeah i was going to get the S1 as when i got my card and OC'ed the hell out of it i was really concerned about temps and had my fan at 50-70% to keep temps under 70c, but then everyone on here convinced me that 80c was normal and i havent had any issues since at stock fan speeds. hits 70-80c all the time and my OC is still going strong. I did however remove the stock heatsink and re apply some better TIM.

I read up on the Accelero and my only concern is that it may not fit the Gigabit Radeon 4890. Also, the text says to add the dual cooling fans to it, which makes it not "silent" anymore. Although any noise reduction from what came with the card would be welcomed.
My last concern is that since the Accelero is bulky, is it going to be a problem for the video card? The thing was already sagging a bit with the cooling that it came with...
So I can't decide!

It is compatible with you card. I would not add the dual cooling fans, as it is not needed. If you have a side mount on your case for a fan, put one there. For my brother's, I put a tri-speed antec fan I had lying around on the lowest setting and it was dam near silent and still provided with good results. There are clips that clip the cooler to the card so sagging is out of the question. I tried the Accelero on my 9800 GTX+ and the 8800 GTS SC and it was perfect. If you do get this cooler, I suggest you buy scythe ramsinks for you card, the ones that come with the accelero are known to fall off easily.

you dont need to add their fans, just zap strap a quiet 120mm to it and you will be fine. And if the gigabyte is a referance card it should fit.
