videotape rejected!

hey

i have two videotapes which i recorded on a while back but know won't play in the VCR. when i press play, the VCR automatically ejects the tapes. i've seen this happen once to a rental tape a while back too.

what's causing it and how can i fix it?

The flip-open part at the front of the cassette is getting stuck. Manually open and close it to make sure it's not broken.

One of two things can cause that. The VCR timer is set and the tape is not recordable or the internal mechanisms are having a problem opening the tape sheild or pulling the tape out. Those are the most common causes.

Try fast forewarding to the end the rewinding. That may retension the tape.
