AMD will give misinformation about stuff like this. Remember Tahiti was going to be the top performing chip for 2013? Still I doubt any 20nm this year.

Regarding that quote, the exact line was "most of 2013." AMD said no 20nm products to shareholders and they cannot deliberately misinform them.

Synapse Design is a company responsible for AMD’s chip floor designs. Synapse recently announced new GPU tapeouts, including two 28HPM silicons (this was discovered at Anandtech forums).
The first one is relatively large chip, 500 sq.mm+. The 28HPM is as powerful as 20nm SoC architecture, so this might be the new Radeon flagship GPU. This processor would run at 1GHz frequency, and according to the source, it will not feature HBM (High-Bandwidth-Memory).
The second GPU is 350sq.mm+ silicon. There is a good chance that this particular chip is actually Tonga. We did confirm that Tonga is almost as big as Tahiti, 350sq.mm sound reasonable.
—-
This is all for now. We are currently expecting more information about Tonga, mass production starts in two weeks. We should see more leaks somewhere in August, so stay tunned.

Everyone is passing this image around. Can we have a link to the source for it?

Stop presenting your speculation as fact.

Now you are telling me that for two years worth of designing. That there is no chance against a no-name bitcoin startup? https://www.kncminer.com/news/news-94
Neptune is our first 20nm product. This order is for the third batch with expected delivery in Q3, 2014.

The Neptune is a formidable technological achievement. It is the first commercially available 20 nanometer processor shipped to end users. KnCMiner can take pride in beating all competitors to the 20nm stage, including the likes of Intel, Apple and Samsung.
Shots have been fired.

You're missing one critical point: open-air fails for multi-GPU because the top card overheats.

This. Blower designs make for painfully warm top cards. Non blower designs make for dysfunctionally hot top cards. Singular reference designs that don't support multi-card configurations just make no sense at all. As long as the standards support multi-card without a an open slot in between, you will not see a reference card that doesn't have a blower unless they start creating multiple reference designs per card. No matter the amount of words used to justify otherwise, it will never happen.

Yep, you don't know what speculation means. If anything, your first image says the opposite of what you're saying, pointing to 20nm for next year. You also ignore anything that goes against what you think. None of those slides and linkedin profiles give any more info than "AMD is working on 20nm products." No timeframes other than the APU, and no specifics on GPUs.

CPU IP and GPU IP come first then the APU IP.

20-nm is this year for GPUs. Then, 2015 is 20-nm for everything else.

2016 will be FinFET+ from TSMC, LPP from Samsung, or SOI FinFETs from GlobalFoundries.

It's like talking to a wall.

Dude, link all the slides and speculative linkdin profiles you want. AMD said no 20nm products this year. None. Nada. They said that verbatim at a shareholder conference. Outright lying to shareholders is illegal.

Beyond that, bitcoin asic builders are supplying low volume easy-to-make stuff. When 20nm gets full production Apple will eat up the entire first few months supply. Then Qualcomm will be next in line.

AMD was 7-8 months behind Qualcomm in the move to 28nm. I guarantee AMD will be behind Qualcomm again, and Qualcomm has specifically stated they will have no 20 products until next year.

How many other ways is there to say it? No 20nm GPUs this year. Your wall of speculation posing as facts is extremely disruptive to intelligent conversation.

So your logic is, "20nm APUs are next year, so 20nm GPUs are this year." Lol. What if, and you're free to call me crazy on this, both 20nm GPUs and APUs come next year? Yeah, I know, I'm a nut job.

No, 16/14-nm GPUs are next year. Very late next year with a potential run off into early 2016.

Sorry, but I dont think AMD is THAT ballsy to try >500mm2 on 20nm.

They can do it on 28nm since its already so mature and yields should be very good.

First the title should read "R390 Die size and process allegedly leaked" so people don't click expecting architecture details (SP, TMU ROPs you know the drill).

Second isn't 28nm HPM supposed to be an improved process with better power/thermal and higher density capabilities?

The first person to use HPM is Qualcomm;
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-800-MSM8974-SoC.103706.0.html

It's an old process though and AMD usually has fast time frames from TSMC announcing volume and products being produced.

The only thing is that GlobalFoundries has not annouced 20-nm LPM volume yet. TSMC announced volume in Q1 2014 but GlobalFoundries has stated sometime late 2014 for their volume.

GlobalFoundries wants the TSV tools to be ready while TSMC is introducing them later.

We know the new GPUs from AMD are at GlobalFoundries and are on 20-nm LPM.

I am going to go ahead and chalk this whole thread up with the Hawaii XTX rumor.

Eat it up people.

omg if true that's a terrible news that somehow got lost in this thread.

I saw this thread, quickly browsed though it and said GREAT.
Then I read the excerpt from the same videocardz article on some other forum, which point blank mentions Hawaii XTX, ie OC-ed 290X... WTH this is rly bad.

Not because of "milking" Hawaii, but because Nvidia and GM204 have nothing to fear.

First it was Hawaii XTX was coming, then it was 390x is finished and ready to launch, then we here HBM is days away, and now this.

People need to get some more constructive hobbies.
