Definitely as expected, I'm confident custom 980Ti with cut down GM200 will match Titan X performance out of the box.

Reasons are obvious to anyone who has paid attention to how Titan X behaves:

1. Throttles on reference cooler, incapable of good cooling of 250W TDP GPU.
2. 12GB vram is nice, but it uses up the TDP budget, limiting top tier boost.

Custom designs will solve #1, along with better VRMs, more power limits and 6GB vram, it should boost 1.3ghz out of the box and match Titan X.

This is the real competitor for AMD's Fiji, they need to resoundingly beat it as well as ensure 4GB HBM isn't a limiting factor at 4K.

Also interesting is the "Hawaii" re-badge, higher clocks & more vram. Only way its possible is via GloFo's superior 28nm, power savings due to less leakage. Could be a very competitive GPU against 970/980 with equal performance and reduced power consumption to make it attractive. AMD's gaming performance tend to be higher than their 3dMark numbers, relative to NV.
