I do wonder if they're going to take the new 12nm process and produce a classical raster only chip. If you look at the space on the 2080 chips used for Ray tracing it's quite significant so if you dedicated more of those transistors to normal rasterization you'd have one incredibly fast video card.

I think the reason this makes sense is that it's not clear what AMD are going to do in response to RTX, it might be too small of a space of time to engineer a ray tracing competitor unless they were already deep into the development of that already. And if AMD go 12nm and stick to traditional rasterization and go with a decent sized die then they're going to crush the RTX range in rasterization, and something tells me Nvidia are going to want to preempt that.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like, 16 Gbps memory and maybe tweaked clocks. And the existing models will get like a $50 price cut while supplies last, to mess with AMD.

People would love an update to the Nvidia shield, particular if it had a new chipset.

It's one of their most universally praised products.The shield is getting old in the tooth and people want a newer version of it.

I got the shield tablet back in the day, the pen and whatnot was awesome. Great unit.... until they updated it. It's had the most atrocious, literally unusable performance issues since they updated it years ago. None of the subsequent updates have fixed anything. It's the last time I buy anything one-off with anything other than straight AOSP. It's always software that gets ya

I'd definitely buy a Turing Shield. The current Shield was released 4 years ago (May 2015). It's Maxwell based (albeit 20nm), and is missing quite a few newer format encoders/decoders.

I'm not that good on the technical stuff, but if NV wants RTX to stay, I can't imagine that they're not increasing the RTX capabilities on the next chip. That doesn't mean that it will be proportionally more of the chip than it was on the 20xx generation, but they've got to keep upping it to make RTX stay a thing. While I hope AMD can muster some real competition, I hope ray tracing stays relevant and that both start supporting it in a way that is compatible with each other. I'm not too keen on it dying for short term competition reasons, and that we have to wait 5+ years for it to start going again.

Still, I feel like it's too soon to announce a big step, with so many users still buying RTX 20xx cards.

My take is that they're doing this just to take some wind out of AMD's sails. I would guess a small upgrade in performace at the same price point as the current cards and a price cut for those older cards.

Looks like refreshed 2060, 2070, and 2080 parts. The new super 2080 will be based on a full TU104, 2070 will be a cutdown TU104, and the 2060 will become what the 2070 is now.

So the 2080 might get a 10% performance bump while the 2070 and 2060 will each get a 15% performance bump.

All are expected to come out at the same MSRP as their replaced cards, while current stock will drop ~$50 or so.

Nvidia is masterfully (and unfortunately for consumers) slow rolling their product releases then trumping AMD when AMD rolls out new products.

Oh yes, definitely get ready to empty your wallets... no way these are going to be reasonably-priced. Also expect a Titan SUPER to appear at some point just because of course.

It is said that SUPER series will receive faster memory and a core count bump across the series. This time around NVIDIA is not launching a new GeForce series (RTX 3080 etc), but instead, existing SKUs will receive a SUPER postfix. That said new GeForce will simply be called RTX 2080 SUPER.

I'm going with fully unlocked TU102 for 2080 TI super (so 12gb vram), fully unlocked TU104 for the 2080 super, a cutdown TU104 for the 2070 super, and the full TU106 for the 2060 super and maybe faster vram for several (if not all) the super parts.

Price hikes would truly suck because, at most, we are looking at 15% performance increases (for the 2060 and 2070 supers) and 10% for the 2080 and 2080 TI.
