Videocard choices

I have an older Althon 64 FX-53 and a 7800GT - I want to upgrade to a new dual core, but I want to also be a bit more forward looking than just putting a X2 in my 939 board - I do gaming and video editing (and my senior project for college will probably be finishing up my own graphics engine, though it won't be that great) - so I want to also see about a new videocard....and while I'm holding off for my CPU/Mobo/RAM upgrade to get a glimpse of Penryn (though not Barcelona it seems) I am wondering - do I have any reason to wait for a new videocard to come out? I'm looking at a 8800 GTS 640mb:

As for 320 vs 640, from what I have seen, 640 looks like it is better in terms of lasting a longer period of time, and I run my games at 1680x1050, which would appear to be where the extra frame buffer starts to become visible, no?

So, is there something I should wait to see? The 2900 has not impressed me thus far.

Thanks!

So far there are nothing but rumors about the 8900s. Personally, given NVidia's edge I don't see much urgency for a refresh.

I have to ask though, do you really need to upgrade your 7800GT right now? Should run Dx9 games well for a while. If you wait until the fall/Penryn, you should be able to pick up a much cheaper 8800 card. Definitely go with the 640mb if you decide to upgrade considering your resolution.

640MB is only around 30-40 bucks more on Newegg compared to the 320Mb. Might as well get the 640Mb to be future proof.
