video vanishes

Hi -

I have a problem with the onboard video on the PcChips 810 mobo (sis730 chipset) where the picture on the monitor disappears randomly - i am left with a black screen. The only way to get the picture back is to restart the pc. The strange thing is that there is still a signal to the monitor - if i pull out the vga connector to the mobo and push it back in again the monitor makes that ping noise you get when there is a signal...still no picture though. Also the PC is running great even without the picture - keeps on playing music or whatever. Could it be the monitor (its old but has never given trouble before) ?

Any ideas please?

Do you have your monitor set to turn off in power options in control panel? If so tell it to never turn off and see if it still does it. Might want to so the same for hard disk and stand by.

Hi Will

Have already disabled all the power management features in case that was the problem. I will double check the bios to be sure though, thanks..

could it be anything else?

i will try it in safe mode to see what difference it makes...but for now i am pretty sure it is the monitor because a solid punch fixes it for a while.

thank you for your prompt replies.
