I am currently running an I7 920 with 6GB and a GTX285

I am considering upgrading the video to get DX11 features and a little more performance for the current game market.

I have been away from the tech side of this for awhile am I am extremely confused with the numbering scheme and performance of the new series of GPU's.

I am looking at the GTX 460 and the GTX 560 also the 560ti

Is the ti edition that big of an issue? Is the performance gain of the 560 over the 460 worth the $75 difference in price?

My head is spinning after reading the forums here, Toms hardware and surfing the web.

Current native resolution I am running is 1680*1050

a gtx460 would be almost no better than what you have. there's no point in getting a card for DX11 features if its not fast enough to actually run all those features and not be slower than your current card. coming from a gtx285, the lowest card I would go with would be a gtx570. and what res are you wanting to play at?

gtx560 ti is okay but I would still go for the gtx570 if you can get a good deal on one. some of the latest games are pretty demanding even at that res.

Wow... there is about $125 difference between the 560ti and the 570... Is there a 30% performance difference? The 285 is running pretty well for an older card that is 3 years old but I am noticing some tearing and frame issues now.

there should be less than 100 bucks if you look at the cheapest gtx560 ti and cheapest gtx570. there's certainly more value in the gtx560 ti but if it does not get the job done then that may not matter too much. at 1680x1050, either one will be fine.

screen tearing would have nothing to do with card getting old or not getting the job done.
