Video Upgrade from a 7600 GS?

I'm looking for an upgrade to my 7600GS. I'm mostly into HL2 games right now (TF2, etc.).

Here's my current rig:
Athlon x2 4800+
2GB RAM
Windows Vista
Geforce 7600 GS
Edit I have a 450W Antec Power Supply
Edit Must be PCIx

My frame rates in Team Fortress 2 are hoving in the upper 20s, lower 30s in most scenarios running 1280 x 1024 res.

I'd like to get something in the $100 range either new or used. I'm not married to nvidia or ati.. I just want the best bang for my limited buck.

Questions:
1. Is this possible?
2. What are your recommendations?

In the 100$ ballpark, NVidia 8600GT or ATI 2600XT DDR3.

I would go with NVidia to stay with the same video driver family.
 
I hace same setup as yours except for Windows XP Pro I am using right now...for 100.00 I think you will be fine with ATI X850XT I have run with X850 with my rig for a year good card until 2 months ago I upgraded to X1950 with new Antec Smartpower 2.0 PSU.

We don't know what you are looking for DX9 or DX10 and is your motherboard have AGP or PCIe?

Both of my cards use DX9.
 
$119 gets you a brand new X1950GT, which overclock beyond X1950Pro levels. Very very nice for the price. Used, I'd look for an X1900XT, 7900GTX, etc. 8600/2400 are too damn slow.
 
Sorry I forgot to mention that it is PCIx that I'm looking for.

So how would the x1950Pro compare to say a 7900GS or 7900GTX? How would all of those compare to my existing 7600GS?

512mb X1800XT's are arround $100 shipped over on the FS forums 🙂 One just sold today for $80 shipped 😵 Anther 3 in the last month for $100 shipped , my roomate got his here for $98 shipped 🙂

BTW, the sweet thing about these is they are flasheable to X1800XT PE's 😀 700/1600 stock and most do 720/1700 + easily. After I flashed my roomates to a PE I got it to 723/1760 for him 😉
 
Skip the 7900gs all together. Just look at Unreal 3 benchmarks. It gets hammered by 2600xt and 8600gts by double digits. 1950 pro does well too. If you must get a Nvidia card you should look at 8600gts. Newegg has them for $122 after rebate.
