I've been dealing with some video trouble for a little while now. I have an old computer (just about 3 years old now) with a 16MB STB nVidia TNT vid card. Everything seems fine as long as i use STB's 3 and half year old driver (they have since gone out of business), but recently when trying to play a game I like (Everquest, with Shadows of Luclin expansion installed), it doesn't work correctly with the old drivers. A number of the areas of the screen are plain white boxes, and it makes playing all but impossible. I installed the newest recommended drivers (23.11 Detonators) and things seemed to work ok for awhile.
Occasionally when trying to restart with the 23.11 drivers, it would hang right before the desktop was supposed to come up (after the Windows splash screen, with the flashing black DOS cursor). I would have to manually restart, choose not to go into safe mode and change the display settings if Windows loaded succesfully this time, as it defaulted back to 640x480 and 16 Colors. I got used to this inconvenience since it allowed my to play Everquest, but today there was another problem.
(This is what my brother tells me, not sure exactly how accurate it was) My brother was playing CS when all of a sudden the screen went black and a small dialogue box came up on the monitor (not from the computer, a grey box from the monitor) saying Information: Out of Scan Range. This problem continued to happen every time CS was loaded and every time EQ was loaded, but didn't seem to happen in any other programs i tried.
I tried reinstalling the 23.11's but this didn't fix it. I ended up reverting back to the old STB drivers but that is an unsatisfactory compromise. Any advice on what drivers to use or what to do to help fix this? Any help would be appreciated. =)
