Video surveillance system on/to a PC possible?

I was wondering if it were possible to create a home/business surveillance system that incporporates come cameras (outdoor type) and a PC to create your own surveillance system... more of a fun experiment than anything.

Does anyone know of anything out there that would make it possible? I did find Digi-Watcher which has nifty features. Just wondering what you use if anyone uses anything currently, that also gives you access via ftp server as well.

Thanks

There are various cheap multi-channel CCTV framegrabber cards in the market, mostly using regular videograbber chips as found on your average PCI TV card. The better ones have multiple chips for simultaneous grabbing of more than one channel, and the really good ones have on-card compression so the PCI bus can actually transport multiple channels at a useful quality and frame rate.

Hi Peter, thank you for the info. Would you happen to have the name of one or two off the top of your head? 😀
