if you split the signal 2 way on a 3 way splitter, is the quality worse than a 2 way splitter? the reason i'm asking is, because i might be splitting some cable tv.

It wouldn't be enough to notice. I've used the same setup before and quality was fine.

Probably, though you may not notice the difference. Look at the label on the splitter or the package it came in. Usually you will find the dB loss of the splitter and the 3-way will likely have a higher loss than the 2-way splitter. As a note of reference, a 3 dB loss is a 50% power loss.

No difference. I don't think there will be any db loss of the splitter, compared with the same sort of single cable, even if it splits 100 ways. What is a potential problem is that you have to add up input impedances (or something like that) and the combined input impedance may create problems. Unlikely for a two way splitter, and identical to a three-way which is used as a two-way.
