video settings keep getting reset after playing game...

After running any number of games (Fly II, MS Flight Sim, Chrome demo...) my video settings keep getting pushed back to 1024x768 (i want it at 1280x1024).

I am running dual output on two different sized monitors which are set to different resolutions (the smaller one is set to 1024x768). Do I need to have them both set to the same resolution to avoid this problem?
