Is there a thing that lets you hook a montier to two computers.

KVM switch or some monitors have both connections to which you can switch back and forth. My Dell 2005fpw has that feature.

Mine has both DVI and VGA, so a KVM switch is the way to go for you. You can get one for about $25 over at Newegg. It'll also allow you to control two computers with one mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Is it possible to build simple audio and/or video switchers with basic parts? Like with wires, switches and the jacks for composite plugs? I'm not sure if I have the right switches to not allow both to be on (suppose could run through a XOR gate or something). Sorta like a homemade KVM, but nothing like controlling two computers. I'd simply like to be able to switch audio or video sources with the push of a button, because for example right now I have to reach back and unplug my three speakers then join them with the VCR output through the 5.1 to Red/White converter if I want to watch TV when my computer is off. Its a little hassle but not worth $25. So anything like that easy to do (and obviously very cheap)?

I could imagine

VERY TIMECONSUMING

You could in thery brak apart a VGA cord and run it through some sort of switch

You don't want a logistics gate. The will do nothing to help. You want a mechanical swich like a relay or a DPDT swich. All are avalible at your local Radio Shack.
