video runs kind of choppy

Just loaded up my brand new 2900xt newest 7.10 drivers. First I tried Unreal Tournament 3 demo, ran very smooth I could tell the fps was almost maxed out. However it feels kind choppy in ceirtian games, take for instance I was playing HL:Lost Coast and like when you walk around a corner it would get choppy then speed up almost like something was holding it back, vsync was off running at 1680x1050 4xaa 8xaf. I just find this strange having 4gb of ram and this great video card and it stuttering in almost any game I try. I remember being able to turn around corners super fast in games and it be smooth the entire way around. Is it my hd not being able to keep up or a setting? Oh my stats are listed below and I haven't installed Vista x64 yet still on XP

2900xt isn't very good at that high of a resolution with 4xaa and 8xaf. try the same thing with no aa or af. If it's good, then slowly crank it up.

Well it was running good actually. The stress tested showed 60fps with those settings so I figured it was limited by vsync

Are you playing with VSync on or off? In the first post you said you were playing with it off. Every ATI Card I have owned required me to play with VSync enabled, regardless of LCD used, otherwise things would become choppy. My old HD 2900XT wasn't any different. With VSync off I would get tearing in Bioshock, Prey etc., with it on everything plays smoothly using 1680x1050 / 4xAA, 8xAF.
