Video RAM sizes

Can someone tell me the advantages of having 256MB of Video Ram rather than 128MB. Most cards that i see have faster memory speeds on 128MB. Please advise, thanks!

256 mb mem is only useful for higher end cards like the 6800gt and the x800xl. On slower cards, when you crank up the detail that actually requires 256mb, the gpu will not be fast enough to process all the extra data. And if it's a cheap card that uses slower mem on the 256mb versions, the it's better to get the faster 128mb version.
