Video Problems

Whenever I play games for more than like 15 min straight, once and awhile my monitor will just freeze up and show just yellow and white blocks. I have to reboot to get any response. Also sometimes the self test on the Asus mobo will say "system check failed due to CPU overclocking" but, I have the processor at stock speeds. I dont think that it is heat because both BIOS and Motherboard Monitor say the CPU temp is usually around 110 to 120 F. The highest Ive ever seen it is 130. Also the video card is not overclocked very much (right now its at 263/502). So I dont think that is overheating either. My system is listed below, any help/insight you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Monitors do not freeze up. Monitors are dumb terminals and they only display what the video card sends them. It must be in your system or VC.

well his monitor could do that, since it's an LCD, but the prob is either bad RAM, or bad Video card

Really, care to explain exactly how that can happen.

Yeah I wouldnt think that a monitor can freeze up, but sorry wrong word usage. Well I just added some new RAM a few weeks ago maybe that is the problem. Ill try my RAM in another system. It just started a few weeks ago, and Ive had the vid card since November 2002 so I dont think that is the problem. Thanks again.

I've had a Mobo randomly reboot a computer while gaming.
But, yeah RAM is a good first place to start.

Try setting your video card at stock ratings (or even a shade under stock). The video card CAN overheat and cause this problem exactly. During games, it will allways get hotter, and your 15 min timing seems about right for that. That is the first thing I would try.
