Video problems with Viewsonic VP191b

I read a few reviews of this monitor and thought it would be great. 8ms response times, decent picture and it was priced nice too. However when i watch some video, the colors are all off. For example, my cannon powershot can shoot 15 fps movie clips. They look fine. But when I was changing the format of some clips so they could play on a standard dvd player, the color looked horrible. Like it was encoded in 8bit color or something. In fact the file was 24bit color. When I popped the re-encoded vid files into another computer, no problems, everything looked great. Another example is yahoo launch. Streaming vid files on that site all look terrible. I have a geforce 6800gt w/128 ram, with updated drivers.

Anyone know if this is a problem inherent to the monitor or are there some settings I need to adjust?

If you are running the v77.72 drivers for your 6800GT, there is a known issue with the gamma for video overlay.

From the release notes:

? GeForce 6800/6800GT/6800 Ultra, Windows XP, Windows XP
Professional x64: NVIDIA Overlay gamma controls under Standard
mode do not work properly, resulting in overly dark or overly bright
video.
To work around this issue:
1 From the NVIDIA control panel, click the Color Correction menu tree
item.
2 From the Color Correction page, click the Apply color changes to list
arrow and select All, then click Restore Defaults.
3 Click Apply.

I'm betting this is what you are dealing with and that it has nothing to do with your monitor.
