I have a 64mb Hercules Prophet 4500 Kyro 2 video card running in a 1.4ghz Athlon with 512mb of ram. The motherboard is an MSI K7T Turbo Limited Edition.

I am running Myst 3 Exile and experiencing video problems. The game starts and runs fine for a while, then I experience some display distortion that shows up in "patches", soon after, the game crashes.

I downloaded patch 1.2 for Myst Exile.
I downloaded the latest drivers for the video card. When I tried to load them, I was prompted that I already have the latest version.

If you know what could be causing this, I would sure like to hear from you.

Thanks,
Mike

Make sure your chipset drivers are upto date (via 4in1s), also check to make sure the cooling fan is spinning. If that doesnt clear it up try taking out 256Mbs of RAM and running with only 256Mbs, hopefully that isnt the problem but its worth a shot if the drivers dont fix it.

Thanks for your input, Pudding.

I updated the chipset drivers.... it didn't help.

The fan is working fine and the chipset temperature is within a tolerable range.

I have not removed ram. How would 512mb of ram be a problem? This game is ram-hungry anyway.

Any other ideas?

Sometimes Kyros don't get along with lots of RAM. That problem should have been fixed by now though, so I doubt that's causing it. When you install the latest drivers, first uninstall the old ones completely, and make sure all driver files are totally erased from the HDD. Then re-install them. My guess would be a bad driver install since you got that funky message. It's possible you already had the newest, but it's doubtfull if the previous drivers were the ones that shipped with a CD. Usually shipped drivers are at least a month behind downloadable ones.
