Video problem on eMachines m6809

Hello.

So, a couple of weeks ago, I ran my laptop (eMachines m6809) on for the night with the lid closed. When I woke up, I noticed that there were video artifacts. I left it off for a while and I turned it back on. I still noticed video artifacts on the bitmaps and stuff, but it has gotten worse, a lot worse. The video is screwy and flickery, even the bootup sequence is screwy.

I suspect that the video card (ATI radeon 9600 mobility w/ 64MB RAM) is overheating and I notice that the fans (one for the cpu and one for the video card, I assume) don't spin as often anymore. When the fans are on, the video card fan is not fanning as hard as it used to. Plus, the artifacts go away, somewhat but come back later.

Any ideas on how I might fix it? It's under Best Buy's extended warranty and it's only been a year since I purchased it.

It's been really frustrating because I was using the laptop as a study tool for exams a couple of weeks ago and I blew all my exams.

Anyways, thanks for any replies. By the way, I posted on ubuntu forums and I haven't gotten a reply there. I restored to the original DVD and I don't have linux on it currently.

By the way, does anyone know their policy on the returns?
Will they fix my laptop or give me a new one? I would think that they would just refurbish it a bit because the m6809 is no longer sold.
