Video playback seems dark...

I recently noticed that mpg/mov's seem darker when viewing them with my Winfast Geforce 2 on my new system. I don't recall them being so dark on my old Dell which had a FirePro GL. Only when the monitor's briteness is at the highest or near the highest setting do the movies seem fine. Mind you this isn't the case for every mpg/mov I have just certain ones. Until I'm able to get a better monitor, is there someway I can fix this? Also, I have a Dxr3 and am using the pass-thru. Could this be the problem?
