Video playback looks washed out

Just upgraded my mobo, CPU, memory, and video card. I went from a GeForce 4 Ti4200 to a 6800GT. Everything went fine when I first booted and was able to run HL2, Doom 3, etc perfectly. But when I try to play a video file the colors look washed out and the picture looks grainy or fuzzy. Every video file plays like this unless I play a Quicktime movie file in which it is crystal clear like normal again. I have Media Player 10, K-Lite Codec pack, Matroska Lite, and Quicktime Alt installed. What could be wrong?

Also before the upgrade, with the same programs installed, the video files played back perfectly. My video card is updated to the most recent Nvidia drivers (77.72 I believe).

Intersting I had the same thing happening with my Dell 4600 with Geforce 4 ti4600. I had play list of MMA videos, looping and over time they would get distored but not on other video players. I upgraded to Geforce 6600 GT and went away. After I got the card though, I bump up the resolution on the video card, and refresh rate for my monitor.

Give that a try. Long shot.

Tried it. The only thing I got was better resolution and a better refresh rate. I think it's something to do with how the video card is decoding the particular video file. It can play Quicktime .mov files but now files like .mpg, .avi, and .wmv. The solution is right at the tip of my tongue but I just can't put my finger on it.

It's an easy fix actually. The problem is in the 77.72 drivers you are using. They have known issues with video problems. Uninstall them and go back to the 71.89 drivers and your problem will be fixed. I had to have my buddy do the same thing.
