Video Playback issues

Never had any problems until recently. Lately, when I'm playing a DVD, all goes just fine for a varied amount of time; then, at some point, the video freezes, while the audio continues for another 15 seconds or so. Then the screen eventually goes blank. Sometimes I have to restart, sometimes I can ctrl+alt+del my way out of it, and the media player will still be running and I can resume normally.

Machine is a fairly new laptop: HP, 17 inch screen. AMD 2.0Ghz. Vista. Nvidia GeForce 7150m/630m. 4 Gigs RAM. The problem happens regardless of media player (WMP, the built-in HP DVD player, whatever). It used to play DVDs start to finish with no problems, so I'm not sure what changed.

All drivers are up to date, and (as far as I know) I don't have any malware.

Any ideas?
