And lobbyists for the top 5 Defense Dept contractors want to "de-regulate" military spending and remove the few laws stopping them from doing as they please.

Haven’t watched the video yet. But yeah if the US didn’t spend so much on the military, imagine how great the healthcare could be for its citizens? Just decreasing it 10% would help.

The US spends trillions of dollars a year on healthcare, between private and public spending (I think it's around $4.5 trillion, if I recall the numbers right). Slashing the military budget 10% will free up around $100 billion dollars. It's not nothing, but more taxes would be needed if we wanted to really shake things up.

You could take some/all of that ~$100B and put it towards preventative measures (healthy eating/exercise/etc) and greatly multiply the end value of it.

The most cost effective way of reducing our total healthcare costs is lifestyle improvements that reduce the illness incidence before hand.

and that's not just lifestyle changes which are very important. Plenty of Americans lack access to basic medical care, and so they end up with much more expensive emergency care later on

Yes, but I don't think it's going to bring costs down that much. At the end of the day, a lot of people would have to get real cool, real fast with making less money (doctors, admins, hospitals, pharma, payers, devices, etc...).
