List the changes which would be considered "using a nuke to get rid of the ants"

I want you to tell me specifically what equipment officers use now (Regular street cops), and how that compares to what officers carried pre-north hollywood shootout.

the ability to stop an entire city rioting.. that's what changed.

rod king..........they couldn't stop it..

north hollywood....... they could stop it but they suffered casualties

currently.... it happens in a city and you dont even hear about it... instead you got normal people defending the "authority's actions"

I grow tired of wanting to pick apart every misinformed detail of shit like this. Do police fuck up sometimes? YOU BET! But guess what, everyone does. The difference? We don't fucking videotape anyone else do we? We aren't out there videotaping your surgeon as he erroneously kills your family/friends. We aren't out there videotaping your vet accidentally kill your pet.

I am just beside myself with the lack of context people have on incidents and the complete lack of social awareness.

Chances are...your neighbor or regular citizen, is the only reason cops even bother to show up at incidents. Then they ask "them" to deal with it. If the cops are so horrible at dealing with things, why do people even bother calling them?

These small little incidents are just what they are, little flashpoints of mindless rage with no thought on what specifically is going on. Everyone bands together now, and mass hysteria starts to take over.

It's amazing to me...how nobody even bothers to think anymore. People just want to react. People want to be the next rodney king. People want to be in the next historic riot. People want these things, but are often barking up the wrong tree. And when they find themselves in a fight or in court, they back down and cry the victim.

Police depts are not perfect, some are horrendous and possibly need to be taken over or removed. But to sit here, and armchair quarterback every fucking incident as if you have any clue what to do is one of the craziest things I've ever seen.

Ugh I need to be banned from responding to these threads.

Thanks for responding to my quote without providing any factual information. I see a trend here.

we have the internet, i dont feel obligated to do any work for you...

and you say you see trends.. teehhee

Snarky comments is all this shit is, a bunch of misinformed hypocritical idiots.

Want to know the most extreme hypocrisy of all this? Every person out there complaining about why police have to handle issues is themselves to blame.

Mental health crisis? Call the police
Marital problems? Call the police
Someone is uncontrollable? Call the police
I'm scared! Call the police

We are starting to understand now...that we've made law enforcement the be all, end all, of the societies problem solvers.

We don't fund social services anymore like we used to. We don't have any asylums to hold the severe mentally ill. We have also complicated the health care industry to a point where it's practically fucking impossible to force anyone into submit to health care services.

So you let chaos run rampant in the streets, try to hide it away from your nice neighborhoods, and call the police when the problems show up on your doorstep.

"No Sir, not on my property. It's not my problem so I'm not paying for it."

Guess what, society is our problem. We all have to chip in, if we want to try and fix these fucked up situations that people get placed into.

The suicidal people, the crazies, the ones we call the police about when they are walking down the street? We already abandoned them. We already let them die. And when we watch the chaos unfold, we try to place the blame on someone else. We try to place the blame on a service which was never really meant to handle those problems.

Police do what...they enforce laws, they fight crime. But who do you call when the crazy guy is off his meds...not violating any laws? You still call the police.

The change starts with those people wearing masks and being angry. They need to be angry at themselves.

Don't mind Zane. See post 46? He's either trying to troll hard, high out of his mind, or off his meds.

People do love to get outraged over stupid things, and they do love to unload their problems onto whatever's convenient, in this case that's the government by way of the PD. All that contributes to these problems, and often causes them outright.

People want mics and/or cameras on on-duty officers because otherwise it's always their word against the police's, and who do you think judges and juries tend to believe?
It's a hedge against corruption, and it's not something we require of doctors, etc., because we have other ways of holding them accountable. With a doctor, you care what they did, and material evidence is great for that. With a cop, you care about both what and why. Material evidence is less helpful for determining why something was done, or in what sequence, the only way to really know is to have been there. It's easy for them to claim "he was coming right at us" like they're on South Park. It's also easy for us to claim all sorts of bias and them wantonly escalating force, when all we want is cash. When there's audio or video evidence the facts are much more clear, and it is much more difficult for the system to be cheated by cops and civilians.

Because no evidence, ever, was sufficient in proving someone guilty of a crime without video tape to back it up....let's be reasonable here.

What? I'm just saying, police should be legally required to have a video record of what they do, and there should be legal penalties for not having a video record. No more "the camera was off" excuses.

Lots of professions require record keeping. This would be no different. Time to put an end to rampant police corruption.

Sounds like a great PD. Kudos to all the ass hats defending them. I wish MY police department was a force of murderous cowardly corruption! Yeah!!!!

Hopefully they get a slap on the wrist!

How many police departments twenty years ago had armored vehicles and SWAT teams? How many have them today?

Stop asking stupid questions.

Should this be in P&N? Sometimes it gets confusing and I am not so sure.

Good news! The occupy protest worked! The police agreed to revive the homeless man and stop shooting homeless people wielding knives and refusing orders! This is exactly what we wanted, right?
