Because its a mile under the ocean. No light, high pressure. Kinda hard to work down there. And you gotta do all the work with rovers.

because they don't want it to rupture somewhere else.

I would imagine that there has to be a way.

I mean... drop a 100 ton block on the source, then deal with one leak.

I imagine the logistics of bringing a 100 ton block out to the middle of the gulf and dropping it precisely where needed is somewhat difficult.

:(
talk about pouring gold down the drain.

All those dinosaurs and ancient plans that died so we could have the glorious sin of greed and gluttony, and this is how we repay them, by watching it escape and become worthless and useless.

Poor dead dino carbon. You deserve better.

Screw the financial aspect. I'm much more concerned with the environmental impact. :(

I say they insert a thinner pipe into the big pipe fairly deep.. and then start pumping cement into it.

Never fear destrektor.. That "pocket" of oil and natural gas can pump 500,000 barrels a day for the next 15 years. It's sitting at 127,000 psi. They didnt dare poke into the middle of such a beast so they thought they could tap the edge of it.

That has to be a very dangerous environment to work in. And I'm not just talking about at the bottom of the ocean. That also isn't just oil coming out of that pipe. Methane/natural gas too. And it all rises to the surface creating an explosion/fire hazard. A very unique environment to work in that has to pose many challenges to all involved.

WTF? I guess you guys didn't hear of the 125 ton steel cap they already tried using? Well if not it didn't work.

I say we drop Kristie Alley on it

Could work with her previous weight. Stupid bia is losing weight though to the detriment of all mankind since she is no longer usable as a oil leak seal. However I here Oprah might fit the specs now.
