good thing the bullets fly off into space too!
Actually: the terminal velocity of a bullet shot strait up isn't very high.

Why are you being such a dick? You responded to me (like a dick), yet I was interested in your point of view and asked why you were saying what you were saying. There are a 150 posts in this thread, excuse me for giving you the time of day and trying to understand your perspective, asshole.
And maybe you ought to read the thread, too: All I said is that I think it would have been safer than taking the hip-fired shot - both are overkill/uncalled for; I was making a comparison statement, ass. The gun shouldn't have even been out of the holster.

TrueAre you trying to say that people don't die from bullets that were shot up into the air? Because they do.
trueThere's always a slight arc. It's practically impossible to fire perfectly straight up.
False. It leaves the gun at about 1.5k mph and hits the ground about 200mph going strait up. The angle of fall will determine how much of the kinetic energy is eaten up before it hits ground: you don't get distance without giving up speed; so even a slightly off-center bullet will lose most of its energy gaining height and then have only gravity to bring it back down. When the bullet comes back the the ground, it's going almost as fast as it was when it left the gun.
Do you know how to recognize playful behavior in dogs? In all fairness, it's okay if you don't - but the authorities should. These dogs were playing and were not a threat. Like wirednuts said, if these dogs were intent on hurting someone, that guy's ass would have been meat long before the gun was fired.
So I've told you why it wasn't justified - can you tell me why it was?
Also, as you can see from the video, a warning should would have - and DID - work... and it would have been far less risky (read: stupid).
