Video not playing on projector from laptop?

Ok when I connect a laptop via vga to a projector and play a dvd in the laptop the movie plays in windvd on the laptop but not showing anything in the windvd player on the projector. How do I get the dvd to play in windvd on the projector?

does anything else shows on the projector?? such as.. taskbar and other desktop icons?

I have had this issue before too doing presentations with a laptop. You may have to mess around with your settings for resolution and refresh rate to get it to work.

Its related iirc to video ovelay. try setting the projector as primary display. Usually the fn button and an 'f' key

yes taskbar and icons show.

That same thing happens with any of my friends' laptops when they try to use them with my projector. Usually switching the laptop into CRT mode (via Fn + whatever F key has things on it that look like monitors) like Mingon said will correct the problem.
