Video not initializing properly on boot

I have a lifetime warranty PNY Ti4200 card that I think may get returned real soon. Everything runs fine if it starts correctly but it seems more and more frequently it isn't initializing properly when I turn on the computer. I hear the typical startup sounds from the CD drives and the motherboard beep but the monitor never gets a signal and never starts displaying. Is this a common problem? Is there anything else that could be causing this besides the video card?

Are you overclocking? I used to have a athlon 1700+ TB overclocked that had problems starting up and posting. I'd have to turn it on a few times before it would post. Gave the computer away and set it back to stock speeds and it has no problems posting anymore.

It possibly could be a sign of a PSU problem. Might want to swap and check that if you have a spare. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I am not overclocking. I have a Sparkle PSU that seems to be running stable otherwise. I had a generic 300 W PSU in before this and I couldn't even POST it in dual channel mode until I swapped in this supply. The thing is that it is POSTing fine except the video card isn't sending a signal (or the monitor isn't receiving one).

You have a spare AGP (preferable) or PCI video card you can isolate the issue with? I still wouldn't rule out a PSU issue.

Good point. I have one from a system in pieces. I will have to swap out the card soon then just do a bunch of cold starts and see if I get the problem again. Thanks for the suggestion. I hadn't even remembered.
