Video/Network/Motherboard problems

Posting for a friend, thanks! 🙂

"Well, the problem started out with Windows ME being worthless so I wanted to reformat and go back to 98. After reformating from ME I installed 98 and it would crash during the first restart of the computer and where it sets up things like control panel and start menu. It would crash right after Control Panel and right before Start Menu. So, we tweaked the bios and it didn't help, so we flashed the bios with a new version and it didn't help, so we just installed Win2k. That was all good until about a week later my screen went black in the middle of a CounterStrike game. Didn't think much of it until it happened again, and again after restarting, and again, and again... until I couldn't get my computer to start up into the operating system without having the screen go black. Not know at the time, but it was my video card overheating, but I took everything out of the system except the vid card and the ram and the motherboard and processor (3dProphet mx 32mb dual display, micron 256mb ramg, MSI KT7-Pro2-a motherboard, and AMD ThunderBird 1ghz) either way it still went black after 20 seconds, removed the video card and put in my old Monster Fusion and it worked fine. Placed the other video card in my pII400 and it worked. So I tried it in my ghz again and it the screen went black after it booted into win2k. Placed it back into pII400 and it wouldnt even try to show a display, it just was all black, and then the card starting smoking!
Well, I got the card RMA'ed but my current problem is that the network card keeps dropping off the face of the earth. My net connection will stop after some (what seems random) amount of time. I tried different network cards (2 realteks, a linksys, and almost a Netgear if I could get the stupid drivers to work) and it didn't seem to help the problem, in fact, under win2k when I installed the network card that worked like a dream (realtek card) in my pII400 it just froze everytime under the initializing network or whatever it says when starting win2k.
So, I thought, maybe win2k was hard on my motherboard and thus it fried my video card and is now causing these network cards to drop off the face of the planet (I couldn't release and renew or ping or anything. it was dead until i restarted my computer) I installed win98 and it installed fine compared to the first time in this story, I got everything setup, but the network.. just dropped again. I tried a different network card (the one in currently, the linksys) but it to dropped off after a random amount of time. It would end up being hours, days, or minutes. It is currently dropping off every 5mins after startup. So to test if it was the motherboard I switched it out from different pci slots but it kept dropping off. I call MSI tech support to see if they think it might be the board, and the guy just had me install the 4in1 drivers and get some proper cooling... think what you may... I installed the 4in1 drivers cause I had yet to do that for this new format of win98 and it made the problem worse. This is where the 5mins online thing is coming from. I startup the computer, start downloading my sound card drivers because I've had such a terrible time trying to get them, and then it drops me off.
After 4in1 drivers I get disconnected more frequently, but it seems to be when im downloading (which would make sense cause im sending way more info through that card, specially at 130kb a sec, then would just be used to keep mIRc, ICQ, and a BitchX terminal.
Any ideas? and thoughts? I got the video card RMA'ed and I can send in the MotherBoard too. I'm thinking I should just replace the motherboard any ways cause I think one of my slots is friend =0."
