Video needs help

Up until a couple days ago video was actually pretty good, it was civil, flamewars weren't erupting right and left but then today this showed up and video has taken a few big steps back. I know in the past the mods have given video a pretty long leash and not done anything unless absolutely necessary but this is getting crazy. Video is going to go back to where it was when the AEG issue was last big and video was witch hunt central.

I propose that the mods lock the thread and give a vacation to anyone who from this point forward accuses another poster of being AEG or HRC without any proof.

I know the mods have said "What happens in video stays in video" but this is going to get out of control very quick.
 
If they locked the AEG topics, then I think it would be good to lock this new one, too. If not, though, it would be unfair, imo, though I do think the AEG topic was locked.

As far as members who need a "vacation"....Ackmend and 5150 Joker. I think if you did a survey, most members in the board would agree with me. I'm not accusing them of any relation to HRC, just that they are frequent ATI trolls who've contributed to the unrest in the Video section.

What I have a problem with is the "viral" parts of the program. AEG goes well beyond what I think any company should do to promote any product. Spreading fires, misinformation, rumors, and poting on public forums is not acceptable. Does HR do this? Not according to their website, but we do not know what goes on behind closed doors.

Where in that quote does it say anything about spreading "fires, misinformation, rumors, leaks, or message board monitoring"? It doesnt. Once again, HR and AEGs site both state things that are a lot different. HR does not mention anything like AEGs does. AEG admits to starting rumors, spreading misinformation, starting fires, and monitoring message boards. HR does none of the above.

I am being honest. Perhaps you should try it too? Going by HR and AEGs site, do they look anything alike? AEG admits to "Fires, Misinformation, Rumors, Leaks, and Message board monitoring and response." NR does nothing of the kind according to their website. Do they do such things? I dont know, and until we have evidence that they do, we have to assume they do not. Why? Because their website doesnt mention anything of the kind.

Crisis management has nothing to do with marketing. When there is mis-information given about a client, AEG will correct it, as well as rumors leaked about a client, or any fires started (marketing term). Aka, that's why these are under "Crisis Management." Ackmed seemed to conveniantly omit that very small, but pertinent piece of info.
 
Leave the stuff in video. No need to bring those tyoes of quotes in to forum issues.

Like the AEG crap, this should be contained to one thread in video imo.

If I'm going to make a case accusing someone of being an ATI troll, I will include atleast some "proof." Otherwise, my allegations would be baseless, the issue that the poster of this thread is complaining about.

I agree completly.

I have no problems with people favoring one companies products over another, in fact I think it would be near impossible for anyone to be totaly unbiased.
Not that I like it but, I can even put up with people trying to conduct their own viral marketing based on their personal bias.

What I dont think we as members should put up with (and I would hope Anandtech wont either) is slander twards other members, either directly (in the way of personal insults or unproven accusations) or indirectly by naming specific people that they believe need a "vacation".

If Anandtech has the dignity, morals and intelligence that most of its members believe they do then I hope Anandtech will see fit to review this thread and provide the necessary actions.

I agree, let it run its course. I don't think the focus of the thread is on accusing anybody of working for HRC, it's more a discussion of the recent announcement.

It's actually tame in there compared to the old AEG thread.

It should be restrained to that one thread only.

The first time I ever got flame blasted was in Video. And that was back in Sep of 2003.
The first time it happens you really feel sore.
Like "Why would this guy, who doesnt even know me, go out of his way to hurt my feelings?"
Then you realize its the norm and go on with your life.
It took me a little while to realize that the people in Off Topic were actually much nicer and more reasonable than the Video regulars.
Every once in a while I go crazy and visit. Then I see whats going on and run away screaming like Banshees!

Way back in the day I saw a Mod post that the only place even mild flaming would be allowed was in OT. This rule of "what happens in video, stays in video" is a new one to me.

Anyway, exactly what the heck is AEG and why does everyone have their undies in a knot?
 
I would Like to Report 5150Joker for calling Wreckage gay, its offensive to homosexuals, it offensive to heterosexuals, and in a thread filled with finger points and assumtions the last thing we need is someone reverting to offensive name calling.

This happened on page 22.

While I am not a fan of closing threads and I think this has its uses, I would like a mod to talk to Joker at least.
 
AEG is a marketing company that does viral marketing, they were hired by nVidia. Originally the debate was over the ethicality of viral marketing in general and planting people in various forums who have been given free hardware to promote a company without exposing their work. It was later revealed that Rollo was an AEG member and he was subsequently banned, however during the debate a witch hunt took place attempting to rid the forums of AEG. This whole issue was revived when it was revealed ATI had partnered with High Road Communication (HRC). I think that sums it up.

Also guys I don't want this thread to turn into a flame fest, this is to look for possible solutions to the mess that is video, so no baseless accusations ok.

Shame. He used to be a relly good source of info on Video related stuff.

actually, Rollo did it to himself . . . he got banned because his comments 'went too far' in a Forums Issue thread . . . not for what he said in Video. 😛

there is NO solution to Video

When it was about AEG they didn't step in, if they step in now when it's ATi doing the viral marketing, then it's taking sides.
 
No suprise, the thread got derailed by the people who were against the thread in the first place. :roll:

When (and if) some more info comes out, another one will be started.

It is a shame that Joker had to result to personal attacks, but that has been his style for some time now.
