video mode not supported on boot..

I have this odd problem with my new computer, every morning I come into work and turn it on right before the starting windows screen appears (after the bios screen) a message pops up saying "video mode not supported" then I see a screen with colored bars (much like when a tv channel is off the air). If I reboot it, everything works fine. As far as I know it only happens on a cold start, but it may be something random.

I have an Epox 9npa+ motherboard with an ATI radeon x800xl video card attached to a Hyundai L90D LCD monitor via DVI

Anyone have any ideas?

Is there a "PCI / PCIe primary video adapter" setting, or something similar in the BIOS?

Maybe check that out, i've only played with AGP mobos and they usually have a setting to determine whether you video card is AGP or PCI, so it's just a guess.

Hi, I had an almost identical situation a few days ago. Turned out to be a mem problem. Haven't sorted it out yet, but Memtst showed it up real quick, but only when starting from dead cold. No OCing. Try Memtst86 or better. Good Luck, Jim

next time that happens, try cycling the power to the monitor. if the image appears its possible the monitor is being detected wrong.

That used to happen on a Hyundai L70S I had. I would have to shut the computer down, turn off the LCD, turn it on, then turn on the PC. Would usually only happen when I use the LCD with a different PC. Then after that it would be fine.
