Video Issues Within Windows

I recently installed XP SP2 MCE on a new drive after my last one decided to go clicky click click.. but I can't get the display drivers to install properly..

I'm using a Nvidia 6600gt and attempting to install any forceware drivers results in my monitor shutting off after the driver installation and saying Input not Found. If I drop into safe mode and install the drivers, after complete, a message pops up that ends with telling me that Access is Denied after the program seemingly completes. The default adapters that XP installed for display adapters is VGASave and for the monitor is General Monitor (not plug&play which I thought was the norm). It won't allow me to make any changes through the display -> advanced -> properties settings of the monitor to force it to the Plug&Play or the true driver for the monitor.

What is going on? I installed this exact same setup without issues before.

Some suggestions have been that its possible that a surge led to my Hard drive failure and apparently toasted my video card as well. Is this a possibility when I do have display in Windows until I install the nvidia drivers?

That error definately shouldn't show up in safe mode. You logged in as administrator, correct? If yes, check in ADD/REM PROGRAMS and make sure the bad driver install is not listed in there. If it's listed, then REM the drivers, reboot and return to safe mode to attempt a reinstall. You're using the latest nVidia drivers from their website, correct?
