i moved my 3870x2 to another machine when i upgraded to a 9800gx2. it's on an as p35 chipset board with a q9450, 4GB PC1066 memory, asus 850watt, vista x64. i'm having a problem whenever this machine runs ANY type of game that uses 3d, after about 10 minutes, the screen blanks out. i'm no longer getting any video signal at all. i can hear everything in the background and the music is still playing, but can't see anything. control alt del does nothing, alt tab, nothing works. i have to completely power it off and power it back on. there's nothing in event viewer anywhere about anything crashing. it happens when i run ANY game too. anything from diablo, to crysis. it was just running cod4 for about 10 minutes, and it happened again.

i should also mention, this machine used to have an 8800GTX in it and all of the old drivers were removed before putting in the x2.

You'll want to use the Driver cleaner availiable from Guru3d if you haven't already. Could be any number of things....bad memory....OS update etc. If in doubt reformat and do a fresh install.

Oops my bad! I thought this was about the 9800GX2.

That said IME I have found that going to nvidia to ati is OK but not the other way around. Even with cleaners, uninstallers, etc. it seems like once a system gets CCC on it you can never get rid of everything. It's like putting AOL on a machine. :Q

This is why I always make an image before putting that stuff on. So if it messes up, I can go right back (the right way) without a reinstall. So much convenience.
