Video Ipod Questions

I've been an anti-ipod guy for awhile but finally got my hands on a coworker's video ipod yesterday. Does anyone know where I can find a good, non-Apple, resource on functions, hidden features, etc. available in the device? I need to know what type of video it can play, how much space does a typical 2 hour movie fill, what kind of pain it is to convert dvds for use on the device, etc.

The music side is pretty straight forward but it seems like the video functions might open up a lot of uses. I know there have to be some nifty fanboy sites out there with all of the information I'm looking for.

Also, any other suggestions, from manufacturers like Iriver, other than the video ipod would be appreciated.

video playback only lasts about 2 hours, and it only plays 2 formats, one being mpeg-4. It's pretty easy to convert other video files to that format though.

Thanks.

*edit*

I was hoping for more of a fan site that might have some information on hacking the ipod, unofficial firmware, etc. I guess it's possible this isn't available on the Ipod.

it sucks on the video side

How does it suck on the video side? I saw some parts of Monsters, Inc. and The Office and they both looked great. Are you talking about the allowable formats or something else?

Hes just trolling

no im not... its useless as a video player. if you want something for video get a creative. the only thing ipod video is good for is their trailers and downloading shows from itunes. anything else its way too hard to convert since it supports 3 formats, battery life sucks in video, etc.

I actually have a video and its an awesome music player but videos are a different story.

which is why i have my axim. supports xvid/divx no conversion necessary and bigger screen than the ipod. Even tho i could technically watch videos on my iAudio, i rather watch it on my pocketpc

i have one and i think theyre great for video
if i where to change it, i would turn it sideways, make the screen occupy the entire thing and make it a touchscreen
