Video intercom in the house?

Could I do this?

I want to be able to place video calls among several different machines in my house as a sort of video intercom system. This isn't unreasonable is it? I mean, I can run several unique Skype accounts on my network and place video calls from one machine to another using a webcam and microphone/speakers, yes? Would this not be as cool in reality as it sounds to me right now?

I also might be able to secure some touchscreen monitors free from work -- hows the support in Linux (say, Ubuntu) for that type of hardware?

Thanks in advance.

sweet idea. the touchscreens might be a problem. had issues myself in the past with a samsung. post pics if u get it up and going. would be neat to implement into a larger "network" like a school or something similar.
